Jeff Lindsay: Outstanding Alumnus 2004

Jeff Lindsay has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from BYU. He graduated summa cum laude in 1983, and then went directly into the Ph.D. program at BYU, graduating Dec. 1986. Dr. Paul Hedman was his advisor on a Ph.D. project that explored the fluid mechanics of a simulated pulverized coal combustor with swirl using laser Doppler anemometry. Jeff’s graduate work was supported by a three-year National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship award.

Jeff Lindsay is currently Corporate Patent Strategist and Senior Research Fellow at Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Jeff is an active inventor with 65 patents. Jeff passed the US patent bar exam in 1996 and became a registered US patent agent. He now combines his research background with patent law to strengthen patents for other inventors as well as his own.

Prior to joining K-C in 1994, Jeff was on the faculty at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology on the Georgia Tech campus. He joined the Institute fresh out of graduate school, becoming an assistant professor and doing research in heat transfer and flow through porous media. He became an associate professor in 1992 and was voted Teacher of the Year in 1993.

Jeff has been active in AIChE. He previously served as a director for AIChE’s Forest Products Division and currently serves as the division’s webmaster. He was also active in TAPPI (Technical Association for the Pulp and Paper Industry), where he became chairman of the Fluid Mechanics Committee and a frequent session chair and presenter.

Jeff’s hobbies include amateur magic, digital photography, and running a non-commercial Website, JeffLindsay.com, where Jeff provides information on many topics, including heavily used pages about the Book of Mormon and responses to common questions about the Church.

Jeff served a mission in the Switzerland Zürich mission from 1979-1981, and returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Kendra Larson, who obtained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in statistics at BYU. Jeff and Kendra live in Appleton, Wisconsin and have four boys.
